You can feel that the serum is lightweight with even slightly tacky finish depending on the product - and that the things called "cream" are a much more dense product.
Serums are generally a humectant. Humectants hydrate and help draw moisture into the skin. It's important that you put a moisture barrier on top of the serum to keep it 'in' and create more protection from the elements and free radicals. The moisture barriers are called emollients or occlusives which soften skin and create that moisture barrier to hold in all the good and keep dryness at bay. Ours are the Olive Day Cream and the Night Cream.
